Parkville Veterans Memorial - Honor Our Heroes!

From the Pioneering Days to the Battlefields of Afghanistan, some of our greatest American Heroes have hailed from Parkville and the surrounding areas. Our Memorial will be a landmark where Patriots and families can gather, reflect and pay homage to our Heroes, both past and present. The Sphere, a beacon of Light and Hope, and a Star emanating the Six Branches of our Armed Forces will pay respect to our brave men and women.

Purpose of the Parkville Veterans Memorial

Honor—“a privilege”

Most Veterans consider a high privilege to have served our nation. So as we honor and thank them for their service, let us recognize that they considered their service a privilege.

It becomes our privilege to honor the servicemen and women represented by this monument and memorial.

Honor also eludes to “fulfilling an obligation”. Since our veterans fulfilled and are continuing to fulfill their obligations, this memorial and monument serves to satisfy our obligation to them. Although only partially, as we owe them all we can provide to them.

Reflection‐“serious thought or consideration”

This memorial and monument will hopefully provide a place of solace for the veterans and relatives to reflect on service and duty of those we honor.

It will be a place of thought, consideration, and reflection here in downtown Parkville. This will provide us with a serious way to permanently enshrine the memory of our heroes in our collective minds.

Remember‐“convey greetings from one person to another”

How we remember is important. How we memorialize our veterans is critical This memorial and monument will provide a permanent and positive habitat to enshrine in our memory, the lives of our veterans.

Memories are essential in a free society. Again, this perpetual memorial will endure through the ages to assure that we will not forget.

1939 Jaguar Replica

The SS Jaguar 100 is a British 2-seat sports car built between 1936 and 1939 by SS Cars Ltd of Coventry, England. The manufacturer’s name ‘SS Cars’ used from 1934 maintained a link to the previous owner, Swallow Sidecar, founded in 1922 by Walmsley and Lyons to build motorcycle sidecars. In March 1945 the S. S. Cars shareholders agreed to change the name to Jaguar Cars Limited. In common with many products of the thirties the adoption of an animal name was deemed appropriate and the model name “Jaguar” was given to a new SS saloon car in 1935, and then to all new SS models. The ‘100’ was for the theoretical 100 mph maximum speed of the vehicle.

All proceeds go towards funding for the memorial.
